Adebayor treble seals Arsenal win back in 2007

Looking at Barclays Premier League history, we recall Arsenal's 5-0 home triumph over Derby

Premierleague.com rifles through the annals of the Barclays Premier League to find significant events.

22 September 2007 - Arsenal 5-0 Derby County

Emmanuel Adebayor scored his first hat-trick for Arsenal as they beat Derby County 5-0 to stay top of the Barclays Premier League table.
The Togo striker had put the Gunners top the previous weekend with two goals in a 3-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur and he continued his form against the Rams.
The result made it 15 goals conceded in three away matches by Billy Davies’ side, who had earned their first win of the season the previous weekend against Newcastle United.
Adebayor had come close before Abou Diaby gave Arsenal a 10th-minute lead when he cut in from the right and fired the ball into the net from distance.
Stephen Bywater, the Derby goalkeeper, denied the midfielder a second before Adebayor doubled the lead. The striker controlled a Cesc Fabregas pass on his chest, rounded Bywater and slotted home.

Bywater kept Derby in it with an amazing save from Eduardo Da Silva. The Croatia forward, on his Barclays Premier League debut for Arsenal, was involved in the third, winning a penalty by being fouled by Matt Oakley in the 50th minute. Adebayor converted the spot-kick.
Kolo Toure, Theo Walcott and Adebayor all had chances to add to the score before a cracking shot from Fabregas made it four for Arsene Wenger’s side.
Adebayor claimed the match ball nine minutes later when he controlled it on his chest again and slotted it into the net.
Later in the season, Adebayor became the first player to score two hat-tricks against the same side in a Barclays Premier League campaign when he netted three times in a 6-2 win at Pride Park.
Arsenal ended up third in the table as Derby were relegated after finishing bottom with 11 points, the lowest total in BPL history.
